Eadweard Muybridge could probably be considered as the godfather of the moving image.

In 1872, he set about proving that a horses’ four hooves left the ground whilst in transit. He did this by setting up triggered cameras which took pictures of the horse as it passed. He then viewed the images on a zoopraxiscope, an invention of his, which has been dubbed the first ever movie projector.

Basically, he was a genius. And it’s his 182nd birthday today. So happy birthday Eadweard Muybridge!
